How To: De-crystallize Honey Cleanse

Finding that your Honey Cleanse has crystallized can be the start of a really fun process.  It gives you a chance to get in the kitchen and play the roll of Skinfood Chef!!  De-crystallizing your Honey Cleanse is simple and fun.  So next time your Honey Cleanse is feeling a bit too scrubby, just follow the directions below and bring out the Lady Libertine in you!!

As you know, the main ingredient in Lady Libertine's Honey Cleanse is pure raw honey.  Just like all natural honeys, our Honey Cleanse WILL crystallize over time.  This usually takes around 4 to 5 months, but is dependent upon the temperature at which the Honey Cleanse is stored.  In cooler climates honey can crystallize more quickly (roughly 3-4 months), and in warmer climates the process will happen more slowly, or not at all.

How will you know if your Honey Cleanse has crystallized?
That's easy- it will be much thicker in consistency and will also become too "scrubby".

If you discover that your Honey Cleanse has crystallized, it is very important that you de-crystallize your Honey Cleanse by simply warming it up!  The process if fun, easy and takes around 20 minutes.  Prolonged used of crystallized Honey Cleanse can over exfoliate the skin, leaving you feeling raw.  De-crystallizing your Honey Cleanse will bring it back to it's original smooth state without loosing any of the effectiveness!

How to De-Crystallize your Honey Cleanse:
1. Pour the crystallized Honey Cleanse into a glass measuring cup.
2. Fill a saucepan with 1 inch of water.
3. Put the glass measuring cup into the saucepan- this creates a simple make-shift double boiler.  I like to hang my measuring cup in the saucepan by the handle to keep it from moving around.
4. Place on the stove at low heat for 15 minutes.  If water begins to boil, bring down to low simmer.
5. At 15 minutes, test the Honey Cleanse with a spoon (*Make sure that the spoon is NOT made of aluminum as this will react with the honey).  The honey should be smooth to runny in texture.  If the honey is still thick, test a bit on the back of your hand.  Keep in mind that you will still feel the fine grain white clay, but all of the larger crystals should be gone.  If it is still too scrubby, leave Honey Cleanse on the stove for another 5 minutes.
6. Remove from the stove and let cool.
7. Pour back into the original Honey Cleanse jar and enjoy!!

Not so into the kitchen thing?  I gotcha!  Crystallized Honey Cleanse doesn't need to be tossed away!  No, no!  It makes an amazing body scrub!  You can always order a fresh one from us to use on your face and use the crystallized product in that way!
